Bad Night for Levies in Southern Oregon

The following thumpings are still unofficial:

- Coos County Local Option Tax--Sheriff's Office Operations:

67.9/32.1 No, all precincts counted.  Voter turnout--37.9 percent

- Curry County 05-83, Five Year Local Option Levy:

66.8/33.2 No, all precincts counted.  Voter turnout--54.6 percent

- Jackson County 15-75, Local Option Tax for Public Library Operations:

59.3/40.7 No, all precincts counted.  Voter turnout--51.2 percent.

- Josephine County 17.19, Three Year Local Option Tax for Criminal Justice System Operations:

59/41 No, results not posted on-line yet.  Voter turnout--51 percent.

This will bring up a number of questions, like...

- Will Curry County have to declare bankruptcy?

- How badly were JoCo's leaders lying to us (most recent blog here) about what will actually be cut?  And, how badly will the cuts suck?

- Will Jackson County voters ever think that paying twice for libraries is acceptable (previous blog here)?

- How many people still think that county payments will come to the rescue?

At least the double majority requirement wasn't a factor.  More to follow tomorrow.
